Vintage Acquisitions
I just got back from The Chap Olympiad in London! We ended up spending the night on the airport floors as our flight was canceled and there was no more accommodation available. A part from that, our London trip was an amazing experience. I haven't been in London since I was 16, so therefore we thought it was a good idea to do some sightseeing and the compulsory afternoon tea. We chose the fancy one at Hotel Cafe Royal and it was every bit as opulent as I had imagined. We didn't do any vintage shopping, so I don't have anything from London to show you, but I have managed to get my claws on a few new pieces recently...
First off is my 1930s sunglasses! I have been wanting an original pair for ages, and finally I found some in reasonable price range and condition. I have also bought a tortoise pair, but as for now, it seems they're lost in the mail. However, I love the lightness of these and how well they fit with my mostly pastel wardrobe.
Second is my 'Fleur'- dress. I think it has a Fleur Delacour feel to it, even though it's a different shade of blue than her costume. I'm not a huge Harry Potter fan, but the Fleur-costume is to die for. It has the most iconic 1940s shape! The color is quite tricky to photograph, but imagine a vibrant steely petroleum blue. It's a bit more grey than green and the fabric is semi-shiny. It's a later 1940s dress than I would usually go for. Originally it had a pencil skirt that went beyond the swing skirt (with the swing skirt bein sort of a peplum), but I hemmed the pencil part so it has a swing skirt (which is more flattering on me) and looks a bit earlier 40s. The draping from the neck is absolutely stunning! It has quite a long waist, so it looks best belted.
I wore this to a tea at Harrod's one of our last days in London.
Last but not least, is this creme 1940s beauty I just picked up! I got it at a reasonable price due to some condition issues, but I just though it will look perfect with a pastel belt and be a modified version of Ingrid Bergmans white outfits in Casablanca. It's teeny tiny and fits me absolutely perfectly! I love the draping on the bust and the semi-full skirt. This kind of flared swing skirt, like most junior dresses from the late 1930s and early 1940s have, is my favorite kind of skirt shape!
